Iran has called for fewer border and customs barriers to support growing trade with Afghanistan. Ariana News reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran and Kabul had discussed practical steps to facilitate commercial and economic exchanges.
Baghaei said the subject was also raised during talks between Afghanistan’s economic deputy prime minister and Iran’s president, followed by continued ministerial contacts. Iranian officials said easier customs procedures could help increase the movement of goods.
Trade between the two countries uses both road crossings and expanding rail freight, particularly through western Afghanistan. No new binding customs agreement or specific tariff concession was announced in the report, so the latest development remains part of ongoing official negotiations.
