Afghan officials and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime have called for stronger coordination on counter-narcotics work. Pajhwok reported that Deputy Interior Minister for Counter-Narcotics Sheikh Abdul Rahman Munir met a UNODC representative in Kabul.
According to the Interior Ministry, the discussion covered closer cooperation on surveys, data collection and the exchange of information related to narcotics. Munir briefed the UN official on measures taken by Afghan counter-narcotics authorities and said the global drug problem requires sustained cooperation based on international standards.
The ministry said both sides agreed to continue existing cooperation and strengthen coordination. No new funding package, binding agreement or large operational programme was announced in the account of the meeting.
