MADRID: Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a brilliant solo goal and a penalty, The Express Tribune reported.
Key points
- Arda Guler opened the scoring with a superb strike after 30 minutes
- It was Mbappe's ninth league goal of the season
- Barcelona lead Madrid by six points ahead of next weekend's Clasico at Camp Nou
How the match unfolded
Guler curled a shot over the goalkeeper and into the top corner from the edge of the box to put the hosts ahead. Mbappe then ran onto a Jude Bellingham backheel, spun into the area and rounded the keeper to make it two.
Mbappe added a third with a chipped Panenka penalty. Manuel Bueno pulled one back for Sevilla before Yan Diomande hammered in a fourth from outside the box.
Guler elbow controversy
Guler escaped punishment for an apparent first-half elbow on Sevilla's Peque. Sevilla coach Luis Garcia Plaza said his side should have been playing against 10 men from the 25th minute, while Jose Mourinho said he had not seen replays of the incident.
Madrid without Vinicius
Diomande started in place of the suspended Vinicius Junior. Fans at the Bernabeu chanted and held up banners against La Liga president Javier Tebas. Mourinho said his team had played a great game and were working to keep improving.
