The drug addiction treatment hospital in Afghanistan’s Ghor province has doubled its capacity from 20 to 40 beds, according to the Ministry of Public Health. Provincial officials and health-sector partner organizations attended the expansion ceremony.
Health authorities said the additional beds will allow more patients affected by drug addiction to be admitted and improve access to treatment. Officials also emphasized professional medical services and stronger coordination among institutions dealing with addiction-related health and social problems.
The ministry did not publish the cost of the expansion or the number of additional staff. Sustained services will also require trained personnel, medicines, psychosocial support and follow-up assistance after patients leave the hospital.
