Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistan’s diplomatic representative in Kabul and lodged a formal protest over the recent incident in Nuristan. The ministry said Islamic State-linked and other armed elements attempted to cross the Durand Line into Kamdesh district.
The Afghan ministry alleged that the elements received direct assistance and guidance from Pakistani military authorities, describing the alleged action as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It warned that responsibility for consequences of any continuation would rest with Pakistan. The allegation has not been independently established.
Pakistan has already rejected the underlying Nuristan allegations as baseless. Pakistani authorities said the Afghan side had produced no evidence of Pakistani institutional involvement and denied facilitating Islamic State or other armed groups.
The diplomatic move follows the September 27 Nuristan episode. Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry had claimed that 28 fighters were killed and 32 captured, including alleged Islamic State members. The Associated Press reported both the Afghan allegations and Pakistan’s denial.
