PESHAWAR: According to The Express Tribune, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced a revised welfare package for police personnel and their families. He said the measures were finalised over the past two to three days with the inspector-general of police and the chief secretary, and that more steps would follow.

Under the package, families of martyred personnel from constable to inspector will receive Rs17 million instead of Rs11 million. Compensation rises from Rs16 million to Rs25 million for DSPs and ASPs, from Rs21 million to Rs30 million for SPs, SSPs and grade 18-19 officers, and from Rs21 million to Rs35 million for DIGs up to the inspector-general and officers in grade 20 and above.

Payment for permanent disability has been raised from Rs500,000 to Rs5 million, and for severe injuries from Rs100,000 to Rs1.5 million.

The governor said bereaved families were often allotted plots far from their hometowns, so cash will now replace plots: Rs18 million for families entitled to five marla, Rs25 million for seven marla, Rs35 million for 10 marla, and Rs70 million for families of SP-rank officers and above who were entitled to one kanal.

The package also covers relatives of serving personnel: Rs5 million if an officer's spouse or child is killed in a targeted attack and Rs3 million for a parent or sibling. Families of personnel killed off duty will get Rs4 million to Rs7 million, and Rs10 million in special assistance has been announced for the weddings of martyrs' daughters. A fund for the education of martyrs' children is also planned.
