Shadab Khan struck his maiden one-day international century at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, rescuing Pakistan from the brink to beat England by one wicket and book a place in the tri-series final on October 31.

Chasing 241, Pakistan were in trouble almost at once. Fakhar Zaman (10), Saim Ayub (6) and Babar Azam (10) were all gone inside seven overs, and although Saad Baig hit a brisk 32 off 22 balls, the hosts were 103 for five when Shadab walked in.

It got worse. Salman Ali Agha fell for 26, and by the 34th over Pakistan were 154 for nine, still 88 runs short. With last man Haris Rauf holding firm at one end, Shadab began to attack from the other.

The turning point came with 27 still needed, when Shadab was given out lbw. His review, more hope than expectation, showed an UltraEdge spike: the ball had touched the bat first, and the decision was overturned. He reached his hundred off 91 balls soon after, and Haris finished the job by driving Henry Crocombe straight for four as Pakistan reached 243 for nine in 47.1 overs.

Shadab finished on 113 not out from 96 balls, with 13 fours and five sixes. His unbroken 89-run stand with Haris is now the highest 10th-wicket partnership in a successful ODI chase, beating the previous record of 64.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the team, saying the last-wicket partnership turned the game and calling Shadab's century spectacular. Pakistan, who had already beaten Sri Lanka in the series, now turn their attention to the final on October 31.
